Clean Boat Act of 2008

On July 29 2008, President Bush signed into law H.R.5949/S.2766 the Clean Boat Act of 2008, protecting the more than 17 million recreational boats throughout the U.S. from unprecedented and unnessary federal regulations.
The signing of the bill permanently and fully restores a longstanding, commonsense regulation that excludes recreational boaters and anglers from federal and state permitting requirements under the Clean Water Act, designed for land-based industrial facilities and ocean going commercial ships.
The Clean Water Act of 2008 will prevent the federal and state permitting of water-based, non-polluting incidential discharges that occur in the normal operation of a recreational boat, such as weather deck run-off or engine coolant.
This is a Historic Victory for the 1700 National Marine Manufacturers Association members(NMMA) and Boat US --along with 60 partners in the Blue Boat Coalition.
